The Gear Blog: Part ii: 5 Things the Remedy wouldn't be caught without
In our previous blog we looked at the first couple pieces of gear that we would hate to be caught without at a show. We talked about the importance of a quality In-Ear Monitoring system as was how a Keyboard with a good pad can help with the flow of your music. This time we get to check out a couple must haves for our guitarists. All three of our guitarists use all sorts of different effect combinations to get the different sounds that you hear on the album, but within all of those different effects there are two foundational pieces, the overdrive and delay. So much of what we do as a guitarists is based out of these two amazing pedals.
The overdrive sets the groundwork for everything else that we do as guitarists. Ever since rock music has become popular people have been in the search for the perfect overdrive pedal.
Many of the pedals that we use are based off of the TS808 circutry made popular in the Ibenez TubeScreamer. Some of the various pedals that we us are: Fulltone Fulldrive 2, Ibenez TubeScreamer, Zvex Box of Rock, and the Barber Direct Drive. All four of these pedals produce a broad range of tones and if we were to dial in on one that would wouldn't be caught without it is the TubeScreamer. This pedal does an incredible job of coloring your tone just enough for those subtle ambient sounds or turn the OD knob to 3 o'clock for some good old fashioned crunch. This one does it all.
Well ever since The Edge made the delay popular with U2, people have been flocking to music stores to purchase delay pedals. There are many excellent delay pedals on the market. Some that only do analog others that only do digital, but no matter what you prefer, almost any guitarist today wouldn't be caught without their delay, or in some cases two delays.
As a band we use 5 different delay pedals: Boss' DD-5, DD-7, and DD-20, Digitech's Time Bender, and Strymon's Timeline. The Boss Pedals are all excellent digital delays, each of the versions offer different features that may suit your needs better. Boss' DD-20, Digitech's Time Bender and Strymon's Timeline all have the ability to store between 4(DD-20) and 200(Timeline) presets. This is incredible vaulable for playing long sets with many different delay settings.
